You would think I’ve seen them all. Being a horror fan and horror author, I’ve certainly watched a fair share of scary movies, but as I browsed Indie Wire “The 200 Best Horror Movies of All Time” article, I realized I have a few watch parties to organize.
Here are five of the top ranked horror films I’ve yet to watch and why I haven’t taken the time to view them:
Village of the Damned (1960) or Village of the Damned (1995)
Okay, I know this is a classic, but for some reason, the idea of creepy kids doesn’t get me excited enough to buy a movie ticket. It’s a subgenre that is fine for me, but not necessarily a “go to,” and because of that, I’ve never really taken the time to watch this one, despite it’s legendary status.
4. Texas Chain Saw Massacre (The original or any of the remakes).
Honestly, no one will ever be able to convince me to watch this movie, no matter how popular it is. I didn’t even like downloading the image for this blog post (I immediately deleted it after uploading to the post LOL!), so there’s no way I’d sit through the film. It looks way too gory, way too intense, and way too scary for me!
3. Paranormal Activity (2007)
I remember when this came out and everyone raved. Unfortunately, I can’t watch found footage style movies, as I discovered when I saw The Blair Witch Project in theatres, got super nauseous from the camera jiggling the whole time, and threw up in the theater’s bathroom. So while this movie and the sequels were a hit for others, I’ll vomit if I watch them.
2. Saint Maud (2020)
So many people loved this movie that I almost gave it a try. Actually, from the list of great films I haven’t seen yet, I’m most likely to watch this one. I just need to be in a certain mood. Religious horror is a bit of a tricky subgenre for me. I’ve seen my share of exorcist-type movies, but as someone with a complicated religious background, I tend to stay away from these types of films. Still, I’m very intrigued by all the attention it got. Should I give it a try?
IT (Any versions)
I’ve been tempted. This is certainly a classic by the king of horror himself, but honestly, I’ve just never been tempted by the red balloon. At this point, with so many different pop culture references to the movie and book, I feel like I know enough of the plot to continue skipping this one. Although, I do love Tim Curry and even without watching the film, I’m sure he slayed the role!
So that’s my list! What popular horror movie have you never watched and why?
I love this! I may have to work on a list! With the exception of Village of the Damned and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I also haven’t seen the movies on your list!
