New Sci-fi Horror book Static: Interview with Protagonist Carmen Franco
My new sci-fi horror novella entitled Static is set for publication on October 13, 2023! I’m thrilled to have the chance to sit down with Carmen Franco, the protagonist from my book.
Hello Carmen! Thank you so much for joining me and discussing Static, a thrilling sci-fi horror novella being published by Aesthetic Press on October 13, 2023.
Sure, I mean, I’ve been living in your brain for a few years now so it’s nice to get out and stretch my legs.
*laughs* Of course! So, let’s dive right in. For readers eager to know a bit about Static, can you share the premise. No spoilers, of course!
Yeah, sure. Really, Static is a story about my mom.
Oh, hang on. Remember, no spoilers please Carmen.
I wasn’t going to…Okay, yeah, I get it. Um, Static is about my experience working with Dr. Barbara MacDonald. I met her when I was going through a really bad time. Can I tell them what I was seeing?
You mean the hallucinations? Of course!
Yeah, I was seeing hallucinations and they were getting pretty bad. Barbara told me she had a cure, something I hadn’t tried before and considering I’d tried pretty much everything else, I figured I might as well, you know? So, I signed up. That’s when things got…intense.
Very intense, but let’s keep that bit a surprise for readers. I’m thrilled readers are going to get to learn your story. You’ve been stomping around the folds of my brain for…what? Two years?
Longer. I started as a short story back in…I don’t even remember…maybe 2019? And then I got to expand into a novelette a few years ago and finally, you realized I had more to say and that’s how I ended up as a novella.
That timetable sounds about right.
And who knows, maybe one day, my story will be made into a movie and Millie Bobby Brown will play me.
That would be incredible casting! I could see someone like Sarah Paulson playing Dr. MacDonald and your mom can be played by—
Hey, you said I couldn’t talk about her, so why do you get to?
Oh, sorry. You’re right. Well, let’s get back on track. If you had to describe the book in three adjectives, what would they be?
Just three? Okay, I think I’d go with unsettling, quick-paced, and emotional.
Maybe traumatic?
Yeah, okay, unsettling, traumatic, and emotional, but it is a pretty fast read.
Agreed. Well, thank you so much for joining me. Is there anything else you want to say before I tuck you back into my gray matter?
Just that the book is coming out on Friday the 13th, which is pretty cool.
That’s right. October the 13th is Friday the 13th. Easy to remember.
Yup.
Well, thanks so much and good luck on the book release!
You too! *slides back into Nico’s brain*
